One of my friends had a real scare recently when her dog was attacked by another dog that had come into her garden!

The wounded dog had puncture marks and ripped ears and was generally feeling very sorry for himself and bleeding too heavily to be pushed onto the luxury leather of the husband’s car seats!

Thankfully at this moment I remembered a lovely Scottish vet, who lives locally and has recently decided to make her business mobile so she comes to you, or more precisely to your cat or dog.

She did a wonderful job of calming down the dog, cleaned him up, gave him an antibiotic injection, stitches and returned a few days later to check he was healing well.

It’s obvious that she loves animals, and has two lovely dogs at home, but she tells me she always knew she’d be a vet. Her parents say from the age of four, so for her it’s a dream job come true.

She’s also the first vet I’ve ever met who treats animals with acupuncture. Apparently rabbits and cats are very receptive to this and if a pet is sensitive to drugs it’s a good alternative for pain or arthritis.

Appointments can be during the day, in the evening or on Saturday and for operations she has access to a full surgery while she currently builds her own.

She also welcomes people coming to her just for advice and says: ‘All too often people get the wrong type of dog for example one that doesn’t fit their lifestyle. If you take advice before you adopt or buy it saves a lot of problems later. I’m happy to help and it’s always useful to talk to someone who knows about breeds and not just someone who is trying to sell!’

You can contact her (and all local vets) via the official French Vet website click here by searching either Karen Green or Roquefort post code 06330, or you can email me and I’ll send you her details.

And finally I picked her brains about the new Leishmanoise vaccine and here’s what she said: ‘This is the very first year we’ve had this so it’s really exciting. Your dog initially needs a blood test to check they don’t already have it, then three injections, six weeks apart and thereafter an annual booster. It needs to be done separately to the annual vaccines and is really good news for this area as the sand flies tend to like the same environment as olive trees.’

And as for my friend’s dog? He is a lot happier and has healed well.
