Animal Rescue Centres
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 5:07PM We humans are not the only ones touched by recession, pets fall victim too. I spoke to a volunteer at the refuge in Carros last week and he explained that they are dealing with more and more animals all the time as their owners cannot afford to keep them or are worried about finances and job security.
The staff and volunteers in these places do a great job but there are plenty of ways we can help too. Here’s how:
The first obvious way is by (responsibly) adopting a cat or a dog, but there are other ways such as donating your old towels and blankets especially as it gets colder.
You can also foster or sponsor an animal. This is popular with people who haven’t got the time or space for a pet, (or maybe someone in the family is allergic) but who are keen to get involved and support the organisation nonetheless.
And finally yet crucially, they are always looking for extra dog walkers and signing-up for this is easy. I’ve done it myself and it makes for some interesting afternoons I can tell you, but you do come away feeling virtuous.
So if you are thinking about bringing a pet in to your life, pay a visit to the local rescue centres first and see if you can change some little bundle of fur’s life forever.
Here are some of the local centres I’ve spoken to, they all need extra help, but for a full list see http://www.angloinfo.com/
There is one in Antibes behind Decathlon at 1770, chemin des Terriers. See http://pagesperso-orange.fr/refuge.duflos/
Closer to home in Mougins at the chemin du Refuge.
In Vence at 3192 Chemin Riou, towards Col de Vence.
And finally my favourite is past the airport at Nice, on the industrial estate in Carros - Quartier Lou Gabaire, 13ème rue, 5ème avenue, see http://www.refugedecarros.free.fr/
