The self-confessed foodie
Friday, March 20, 2009 at 9:25AM Ex-IBM and self-confessed foodie, Stephanie shares her time between Roquefort, London and San Francisco. I caught up with her to see how that works ...

DH: So Stephanie, how long have you been coming here to Roquefort?
Stephanie: Since 2005, but in very limited bursts of time due to my work schedule in London. Now that I am ‘semi-retired’ I plan to spend more time here.
DH: Where’s your hometown?
Stephanie: Tricky question. I am originally from the New York City area but have lived in South West London for the last 15 years – so I’m not quite sure.
DH: What’s your favourite thing about RLP?
Stephanie: I love the Wednesday morning market.
DH: What’s your favourite gadget, object or thing?
Stephanie: Other than my Macbook, my current favourite gadget is my Easiyo Yogurt maker. I saw it on television and decided to give it a try (yes I am one of those shoppers). Quelle surprise! It has gone beyond my expectations in producing delicious creamy yogurt.
DH: What’s your guilty food pleasure?
Stephanie: There are too many...must I limit myself to one? Right now, after having just returned from two weeks in NYC, it would have to be American-style pancakes oozing with butter and maple syrup. But my chocoholic side also craves a home-made Fondant au chocolat.
DH: What’s your favourite food blog?
Stephanie: As a confessed foodie, I subscribe to several. My current favourites are:
http://www.chocolateandzucchini.com/ written by a French woman in both French and English this is entertaining, informative and seductive with ‘lick-the-page’ photographs
http://www.101cookbooks.com/ A site offering vegan and vegetarian recipes that even this ‘dyed in the wool’ carnivore finds enticing!
http://www.smittenkitchen.com/ A real New York slant on cooking, witty, well-written blog that is up for several awards (cawfee anyone?)
DH: What’s your favourite day out? The mountains or beach and why?
Stephanie: Mountains. My skin does not tolerate the sun very well and I’m a lousy swimmer, which just about eliminates any beach antics for me. I do love hiking for where it can take you and for the exercise.
DH: What in your opinion does Roquefort lack?
Stephanie: A fully equipped gym offering classes in yoga and pilates.
DH: What would you change about RLP if you could wave a magic wand?
Stephanie: I would extend the bicycle path on the road beyond the new college, to at least behind the golf course. This would provide both runners and cyclists a safe lane in which to navigate this busy narrow road more confidently.
DH: What do the coming months have in store for you?
Stephanie: I plan to intensify my French language studies in the hope that I get beyond the ‘rabbit in the headlights’ panic when someone asks me a question in French! And from April to August I’ll be doing a home exchange with a couple in San Francisco; I will live in their house in SF while they live in mine in London. Should be fun!
