The co-owner of Flawless

Nancy is a Danish air stewardess, mother and wife, as well as co-owner of Flawless. I spoke to her about what it’s like juggling these things...

DH: How long have you worked for the airline?

Nancy: I’ve been flying for 23 years! However the job I did then bares very little resemblance to the job I do today. I used to go off on 21-day trips around the world, with up to a week off in the most amazing places. Now it’s just 24 or 48 hours off, less glamorous, but far better suited to family life and running a business. And it’s all made possible by the fact that I only fly 33% so I have three weeks on and six weeks off.

DH: You’ve got a bang-on-trend, credit-crunch friendly business. Can you explain how it works?

Nancy: Flawless is basically a dress agency, based at my house, which I started with my good friend Sophie. People can donate or sell their clothes and we take a commission from the sales price. Most people buy something new and sell something they no longer want. We donate money to the local cancer charity La Ligue Contre Le Cancer.

DH: What kind of items do you stock?

Nancy: We have beautiful pieces by top designers, as well as high street items, gorgeous shoes, glitzy bags, sunglasses and belts. We have monthly sales lunch parties which are great fun and it feels rewarding giving people money from their clothes after the sales, especially when they spend it in shop!

DH: Have you got a favourite item of clothing?

Nancy: Well it’s not my British Airways uniform I hasten to add! Sorry Mr Mac Donald your original design was fabulous but the fabrics are flimsy. I think my favourite thing at the moment would be my leather jacket which I bought from Flawless last month.

DH: What brought you down here?

Nancy: We came down from Sussex to Mougins six years ago, enticed by the sun and the mountains, and we’ve been in Roquefort for nearly three years.

DH: What’s the best thing about living in France?

Nancy: Sun, snow, food & wine, fantastic friends – I do wish more of them were French, but I’ve only got my own lack of better French to blame for that!

DH: And the worst thing?

Nancy: It’s too far for my family to pop-in for a bbq and a swim. I don’t like people whingeing that it should be more like England – if you miss it, go back. I feel like we are blessed beyond belief living here.

DH: You’re obviously very well travelled, but what’s your favourite holiday destination?

Nancy: That’s difficult. I don’t really have one. Copenhagen for my family of course. Other than that, I’m not really one for going back to the same place especially as there is so much to see out there.

DH: What’s your guilty food pleasure?

Nancy: Chocolate.

DH: What do you miss about Denmark or the UK?

Nancy: Family in both places, and bangers & mash at our old local pub in Fletching.

DH: Do you have a favourite gadget, object or thing?

Nancy: My mobile phone, as it gives you such freedom.

DH: Does RLP lack anything?

Nancy: I know it’s been said before, but a village centre.

DH: What’s coming up?

Nancy: We’ve got the next Flawless sale on Friday May 29 from 9am until 4pm.

To find out more about this, future events, or shopping by appointment email flawlessclothes@hotmail.com or call 06 85 14 45 42.

Everyone has such fun (as you can see above, when I forced Sophie & Nancy to display some of their stock!) and we really do enjoying doing it, its hard work but a laugh at the same time which is important.
