The ceramic knife entrepreneur
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 1:52PM I have never used a ceramic knife before so my head was full of misconceptions. Think ceramic brakes on a Ferrari rather than granny’s rosebud teacups! This material is strong, veering towards diamond on the scale, with 95% oxide zirconium (that’s the stuff that makes it strong) and they don’t rust.
After gaining his degree, Roquefort resident William Dechaud (right) had to decide between a PhD and launching his own company. Having studied business & marketing the choice was easy, so last year he and a friend launched LeoW.
What sets his company apart is that despite being new to France, you could only find these trendy knives at either end of the scale – commanding a lot of money or very little - and what these boys are striving to do is produce quality with an affordable price tag.
More usually seen with white blades – I love these as you can see they are clean - they also exist in über cool black too. Hygienic and non-allergic, they don’t transfer smells or taste from one food item to another which has got to be a plus in a land that loves garlic!

LeoW currently offers three of the most popular sizes for sale through specific outlets - a 13cm, 16cm and 18.5cm ranging in price from €35 to €55. And here in Roquefort you can find them at the boutique Envie D’autres Choses (see the links page).
As well as living here for a large part of his life, William, 23, is a citizen of the world and loves to travel, he also snowboards and has a black belt in Judo. Recently back from Mexico he looks forward to visiting the Far East in the future. But before then, and closer to home, he’ll be part of an event at Envie D’autres Choses showing their newest items at the end of April when you can go along and see for yourself.
